A Guide to Mobility Scooters – by Kent Pinkerton

No Comments 27 December 2009

Advancements in mobile and battery technology have made it possible for many physically impaired individuals to replace wheelchairs with mobility scooters.

Mobility scooters provide greater range of movement than manual or motorized wheelchairs, by allowing the operator to make tighter turns and move over a variety of surfaces with less effort. The batteries hold larger charges for longer periods of time, allowing an individual to leave home with little concern.

The tight turns that mobility scooters can perform, allow the operator to get closer to restaurant tables and through tight isles in public places. The vehicles are often lightweight, and break down into two pieces for a companion to load the scooter into the trunk of a car.

Mobility scooters are sometimes referred to as power chairs. The power chairs may operate with a joystick-style controller, while most mobility scooters have operating buttons on the handle bar. Regardless of the name given to the vehicle they operate on electric motors with rechargeable electric batteries.

Although mobility scooters can be quite expensive, many insurance companies will pay for the vehicle, since it is considered a medical device. Mobility scooters allow for individuals with hidden health problems such as heart and lung trouble, to participate in events and care for themselves with less aid from other individuals.

Retailers that specialize in mobility scooters provide a service to help with submitting the insurance paperwork. Retailers also offer scooter accessories such as baskets to aid in the operator’s ability to shop or carry other items. Retail shops carry replacement parts and are a local provider of repair service.

Motorized scooters are considered low-power motor vehicles by many municipalities and are subject to state and local regulations. Some scooters meet Department of Transportation regulations for operation on streets and roadways while others are prohibited from being on the streets. Any time a motorized vehicle is introduced into traffic areas, appropriate cautionary measures must be taken and proper safety gear must be worn.

Scooters Info provides detailed information about scooters, including motor, electric, gas, mobility, push, and wholesale scooters, as well as scooter stores, parts, and accessories. Scooters Info is the sister site of Electric Wheel Chairs Web.

The Telecom Intelligence Group has launched the Secure Mobility Report, an independent, analytical Web resource for the growing community interested in developing or implementing enterprise-wide mobility strategies in both the public and private sectors. Parsippany, NJ (PRWEB via PR Web Direct) April 28, 2006 — Large, medium and small enterprises as well as the entire community of service providers have a major stake in understanding the implications mobility strategies bring to public and private network infrastructures. U.S. companies continue to rank "security concerns" as their Number One reason not to deploy a wireless local area network (WLAN). Even more eye-opening is the fact that a new Secure Mobility Report white paper authored by InfoTech: The Telecom Intelligence Group expects security fears to continue to be, far and away, the Number One WLAN implementation barrier for organizations through 2008. The implications of this sustained level of unease ripple across all WLAN stakeholders. For enterprises, WLAN security fears not only delay the business benefits of deployment, but they strongly reinforce the need for the type of proactive mobility planning that anticipates and neutralizes these types of concerns. For WLAN infrastructure suppliers and their channels, sales and revenues are diminished unless every conversation with customers addresses steps to optimize secure communications. That is why the Telecom Intelligence Group has launched the Secure Mobility Report (, an independent, analytical Web resource for the growing community interested in developing or implementing enterprise-wide mobility strategies in both the public and private sectors. Features To Consider When Choosing A Lift Chair – by Nye Morgan

No Comments 23 December 2009

Lift chairs can be a boon to the elderly, infirm or disabled. Along with stair lifts and scooters they can do wonders for comfort, mobility and increased independence. Lift chairs can be relatively inexpensive but as with everything, the price you are prepared to pay will effect the number and the sophistication level of the features available.

It is well worthwhile to research the market and to be clear

a) what you need and
b) what you want your lift chair to do for you

as the answers to these questions will help you decide on the features that are most important to you.

You might wish to consider some or all of the following.

* Take into account your size. Height, weight, width.
* Seat depth & width required.
* Right hand or left hand controls.
* Specific accessories like heat or massage.
* Will you sleep in your lift chair?
* Do you want 2, 3 or infinite positions?
* How much time are you likely to spend in your chair?
* What size is your room?
* Do you want your chair bespoke or off the shelf?
* Do you want your chair to be static or mobile?
* Covered in fabric, vinyl or leather?
* How much can you afford and are grants or loans available?

Armed with this information you can make a sensible informed choice from the many available Lift Chair models.

Most lift chairs will work with weights up to 375-450lbs. A two position lift chair has a lift position and a slight recline position. As you recline in a two position lift chair your back & thighs will stay at about 90 degrees. They do not recline fully for sleeping.

A three position lift chair will recline fully. It gives a wider range of positions and many allow the user to position their feet above the heart.

Using the above check list should help you get what you want and aid your internet search for suitable lift chair companies.
